With the rising demand for game development skills across industries, the Game Development Bootcamp was designed to prepare students with the skills and professional network needed to get started in the industry.

Program Outcomes

Students learn game development foundations through a dynamic curriculum based on the Unity game engine and C# programming. Classes will dive deep into game development including topics like optimization, rendering, game states, databases, agile methodology, Unity APIs, Git, and more.

Learners take their new skills to the next level on challenging projects, working with their peers to build a portfolio of games and projects that showcase their real-time 3D knowledge. Students gain access to continuation courses that cover additional in-demand technologies, including Niantic Lightship, SparkAR, and Unreal.

Students receive a Digital Badge from UBC Extended Learning and Circuit Stream, showcasing their accomplishments to future employers.

Students benefit from a wide array of career support services like resume and networking support, technical interview preparation, portfolio reviews, soft skills training, and 1:1 coaching to help them put their best foot forward in the industry.

You will tap into our proven beginner friendly curriculum, adapted for online learning.

Over the course of 30 weeks, you will cover game development technologies using real-world, project-based examples. You will learn how to: implement complex interaction systems for different player inputs, create robust game systems, develop a vision for a game—and build it.

You will become part of a wide community of like-minded individuals, allowing for collaboration and peer-to-peer learning via Discord, video meetings, networking events, and support forums.

You will receive extensive on-demand support both inside and outside of class each week. You will also have access to a tutor network.

You will receive career-planning assistance, including: Portfolio reviews, resume and online portfolio support, career content and practice sessions, technical interview training, 1:1 career coaching, soft skills training, and more. You'll also have access to a dedicated career advisor who will work with you on your professional development.

Vancouver's rich game development history dates back to the late 1980s, making it one of the oldest cities in North America for video game development. Keeping up with trends and new technology, the industry has undergone major shifts in recent years. Traditional AAA console games are still popular, but technological advancements have made way for e-sports, mobile game development, and AR/VR attracting a new generation of developers and players.

Throughout this change, Vancouver has grown into a global hub for entertainment and technology providing game developers with a wide range of opportunities to choose from.

According to the Vancouver Economic Commission, the city boasts more than 170 development studios producing world-class games, generating billions in annual revenue and employing thousands of people in Vancouver. Among them, many of the top video game companies call the city home including Electronic Arts (EA), Nintendo, Microsoft Studios, Take 2 Interactive, Relic Entertainment/SEGA and more.
